The Brus are a minority tribal group living mainly in the border area linking north-west Mizoram with Tripura. During the past decade there have been militant

movements among the Brus seeking to affirm their identity, rights and privileges. Militant movements anywhere can easily be manipulated by political forces for their own secret motives and selfish purposes As far as the relationships between the majority Mizos and the minority Brus in Mizoram are concerned, the situation is regrettable. Fears and accusations of oppression of the Brus by the Mizos and consequent incidents of inter-community violence have led the Brus to take refUge in Tripura. Efforts are now being made to resettle the genuine Bru natives of Mizorant within the state. Peace talks between the representatives of the Central government, the Mizoram and Tripura governments, and Brus refugees will be held on May 4, 2001 on this issue. Let us hope and pray that all the people concerned would uphold the principles of human rights and cherish the ideals of ecumenical living on earth.

The Church in Mizoram is all the time engaged in reviving its members. The Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod has a hill-time Revival Co-ordinator. Local churches also keep on organizing programmes with the objectives of facilitating spiritual birth as well as spiritual revival and recommitment among the laity. Of late gospel camping has become very popular in Mizoram. Camping arrangements are made within the church building premises or any other suitable place for a period of 3 or 4 days during which the Gospel is preached and a team of counsellors help the campers in making a spiritual commitment to God. In a society where consumerism and worldly values are on the increase and where the dangers of alcoholism, drug addiction, and HLV AIDS are ever present, the churches are very much concerned about the spiritual regeneration of their members. The gospel camping programme does have an important contribution to make to the church and society. However the organizers have to be carefUl that the programme does not reduce spirituality to an exclusive emotional experience; nor should such programmes cultivate dichotomous perspectives and life-styles among the people. Moreover programmes for individual change need to be complemented by campaigns for social transformation.
